State Journal
A small group gathered for dinner and discussion the other night. At one point the focus shifted to the Wisconsin State Journal (WSJ). Most in the group refuse to purchase the WSJ. Those who do subscribe do so only for local news and obits. It seemed obvious that none subscribed to read national or international news and views.
If you are in doubt, check out today's "Our Opinion" section.
Calling it "Wisconsin's Independent Voice," four WSJ conservatives lay out the questions that Obama and and Romney should answer, with no mention that the presidential debate is controlled by the two major parties not some independent commission! It is a private corporation. Buddy Roemer spoke at Fighting Bob Fest and he told how he was not permitted to participate in the Republican debates. (Ralph Nader, Jerry Brown and Gene McCarthy have been refused participation in the past.)
The panelists who will manipulate the so-called "debates" are right-wing or just slightly right of center. Liberals need not apply.
The panelists will not ask about the Koch brothers or hone in on the role of Super PACS. No, the questions will be softballs for the most part. No one will pin Romney down on money in politics, or why his tax returns are not available or Caymen Island and Swiss bank accounts given to the media.
I say let's get back to the League of Women Voters!

I guess I would want to know what is stopping the LWV from sponsoring a debate. Honestly, why aren't they doing it? What kind of an organization are they?

Griebnotz--I think it is more an issue of candidates (usually Republican) refusing formats of debate they don't like than an issue of the LWV unwillingness. That and getting both candidates to agree on the format(s) chosen.

With all due respect I think if the LWV called or set a debate and invited the candidates they would be more or less obliged to show up or look like fools. I think the LWV is a toothless group and has failed the public on this one.
