Pinko's need not apply
In the midst of calls for "hands across the aisle," bi-partisanship, "looking forward not backward," comes a report from the Inspector General, Department of Justice, and the Office of Professional Responsibility that should rattle all of us. A top official in the Civil Rights Division, Brad Schlozman, should be condemned to Dante's Inferno. I'll leave the location to you.
This scofflaw hired only "Republicans, Federalist Society members and 'R.T.A's--Right-Thinking Americans" for positions in, arguably, our most important place in federal government, the Civil Rights Division of Justice.
Catch this while extending your hand across the isle. It wasn't enough that one had to adhere to the Bush-Cheney ideology. No, in addition, he gave his most trusted lawyers plum cases. OMG! In e-mails he said, I'm not kidding, "We will change the Civil Rights division--we will get rid of pinko and crazy lib lawyers and 'psycho-pathetic left-wingers.' As long as I'm here, adherents of Mao's Little Red Book need not apply."
I lived through Joe McCarthy, HUAC and attacks from Fulton Lewis III, but this guy trumps all of them. All 63 lawyers hired by this scofflaw must be fired. Yes, they should be invited to re-apply, but this time they should be judged on talent not bias.
I would love to follow the words of President Obama to "look forward," but words from Bobby Kennedy and MLK Jr. ring in my ears. Silence or acceptance of illegal hiring must not be permitted. To permit these 63 to remain in office insults every lawyer in America and ignores the victims of discrimination.
Outraged? You bet! (OK, I admit it. I have the Little Red Book. Want to borrow it?)
