Wolfy, bomb-bomb, and Fredo
Something has gone terribly wrong in this country. No one is responsible for anything. Katrina? God's fault while Brownie did a "heck of a job." The fiasco called Iraq invasion? Foreign forces caused mischief while Rummy, Wolfy and Dick relied on "stuff happens" to explain their incompetence--no need to explain. And so it goes.

Last week the head of the World Bank, yes, Paul Wolfowitz, gave big salaries to friends and, ah, Paul, say it ain't so, his girlfriend. She got a nice raise from $132,000 tax-free to $193,000 tax-free. Everyone wants him to resign. Everyone, except his girlfriend and President Bush. Will he resign? I guess not. We have not seen such arrogance before.

Then we have John McCain. What to do about Iran? McCain said, "Remember the Beach Boys song...bomb, bomb, bomb---bomb bomb Iran." Asked if his joking reference to bombing Iran was insensitive, McCain responded, "To who (sic)...the Iranians?" More arrogance. Perhaps he could replace Wolfy at the World Bank.

And we come to Alberto Gonzales who somehow combines incompetence, a dull mind, and arrogance. A self-respecting person, not blinded by arrogance, would have resigned by now. But Fredo and Wolfy are not in our world.

When did we lose control of our public officials? My guess--when private funders figured out how to purchase elections so that elected incumbents respond only to their cash constiuents rather than the voters. Sad.
