On Wisconsin?
The e-mails flew in from far and wide. "Both of your Senators voted for Roberts? What happened to the progressive Wisconsin we used to know?" What happened indeed.
Truth be told we didn't expect Herb Kohl to lead or even join a fight. He said, and I'm not making this up, "I will vote my hopes and not my fears." Wow! The role of the Judiciary Committee is to get the facts so people are not guessing or voting their "hopes," but this committee did not.
When Judge Roberts does exactly what Rove, Cheney, and Fox News know he will do, please remind Herb Kohl that he gave away our store, our grandchildren's store, not his. He is quite comfortable. Those who will be injured for the next three decades by the Roberts Court are seen every night from New Orleans.
As for Russ Feingold, he said, and I am not making this up either, "He is a lawyer's lawyer." Now, what the hell does that mean? Would a lawyer's lawyer or a people's judge have discussed his pending appointment to the court with the administration while sitting in judgment on the Bush policy of detaining prisoners without recusing himself?
The message seems to be that unless a nominee is a felon, the Democrats will confirm. We are, as Hightower would say, in a world of hurt.
