Our gain is their loss
As Bishop Raymond Burke leaves Wisconsin for St. Louis, one wonders who is in charge at the Vatican. Not only did Burke threaten Catholic legislators who wander from church doctrine, he has now opposed participation in the AIDS Walk. Apparently our St. Louis-bound Bishop thinks such action promotes homosexuality.

State Sen. Julie Lassa had the right response to Bishop Burke. "When I was elected I swore an oath to uphold the Constitution, and that means I have to represent all the people of all faiths in my district." Rep. Marlin Schneider called the Bishop's letter "outrageous." (Click here for a great letter to the editor on the topic.)

As for the Bishop? He has no regrets, and he did pick up one supporter. Yes, indeed, the man who would replace Russ Feingold, state Senator Bob Welch, thought the Bishop raised some "interesting questions." Yes, like why are you running?

Farewell Bishop Burke. Don't bother to write.
