War or peace?
FightingBob.com focuses on Wisconsin, but still I cannot ignore what seems to be President Bush's overwhelming desire to demonstrate our military might no matter what the world leaders and the people think. His rehearsed and scripted news conference was pathetic. Imagine JFK listing the news people he would call on in turn? I wonder how long in advance they had to submit their questions to be one of the lucky ones to be called upon. Imagine the Walter Cronkites or Eric Sevareids of JFK's day putting up with such nonsense.

Why doesn't one person from the media jump up and say, "Hey, Mr. President, the people need some answers about the probable civilian body count from the initial bombing. Don't tell us how much you pray, tell us the cost in lives and, yes, dollars."? But our compliant Washington reporters and editors act as if they were dispatched from Central Casting. Suits as props. Wouldn't you be embarrassed to be there? I would.

What amazes me is Bush's audacity to state "facts" that have been discounted by the inspectors and to cite "intelligence" that has not convinced anyone else. There is some good news from Wisconsin. Congressman Ron Kind has asked the leadership to reopen the debate on Iraq. Maybe it is not too late.

Let us hope and keep calling, writing, picketing, and marching for peace.
