Identity please
If you look like a Mexican in Arizona you may be stopped and searched. If you look like a lesbian at Marquette University in Milwaukee you will be fired.
A sociologist hired to be dean of a college saw her deanship offer terminated when the folks at Marquette found out she is a lesbian! Catch this: "The professor lacked the ability to represent the Marquette mission and identity." (The story even made the New York Times.)
Whoa Nelly! What is the mission at Marquette beyond reaching the Final Four next March? The law school is named after James Sensenbrenner, just to provide a hint at the preferred identity.
It has been dangerous for years to drive while black in Milwaukee. What's next? St. Patrick's day--stay inside!
Yesterday we learned that 160,000 gallons of untested chemicals have been dumped in the Gulf to disperse the oil. Today the government decried the number of untested chemicals in use today--chemicals that might cause cancer.

It is possible that I am one of the few people who have not yet been profiled other than maybe fitting the description of a Republican minus money. Fat, old and white.

The question is, if one looks like an American, will he/she be stopped and questioned?
When the wrong people have it their way, this scenario is not that far-fetched.

The liberal vaporizing over the Arizona law would be amusing if it weren't so pathetic.
I always considered myself a liberal, and I still do. But, society does need order and all kinds of people jumping a border, adding to societies burdens, taking jobs in a time of high unemployment, and then supporting that is not liberal to my mind.
Profiling? Well, when the border jumpers are coming in from Mexico it shouldn't suprise anyone that Hispanics are the profile. I would imagine that if Mexico had hordes of US citizens coming from Madison they would be on the look-out for old fat white guys. Oh wait, some Mexicans do that. They are called kipnappers and resort operators.
Give over guys. The unions support illegal workers? Where is the agenda in that? Wasn't it the hiring of illegals that made the union busting in the meat packing plants possible and destroyed good paying union jobs?
Maybe it is time for real liberals to support American workers for a change. Try investigating how Mexico treats illegals that come in from Central America and you will see that the law in Arizona is a back stop made necessary by poor federal enforcement. And it is a law, not anarchy such as prevails in Mexico.

Have to agree with Dorkfester on much of what he said. I lived in Europe for five years and as required registered and got my stamps and permits. But, I was not up against the wall back home, and could also have found work there at a decent wage, unlike many of the Mexican citizens coming here.
Regarding Marquette and the Professor, I think maybe looking for the house in Shorewood was her fatal mistake. Can't be lesbian there unless you're married.
