A Kathleen for governor
A good woman as our governor would be a fitting end to the authoritarian reign of the little dictator Scott Walker.
...little has been said about the gender issue...
Even though I am from Eau Claire County, I first heard Kathleen Vinehout speak at one of the Capitol rallies last year and I was very impressed. Since then, I have learned much more about Kathleen's background in education, health care, agriculture, and governance and I continue to be impressed. Her only weak point is name recognition across the state. Kathleen Vinehout would be an excellent governor.
I agree that Kathleen Vinehout is the outstanding candidate in the race. I am not worried about her lack of name recognition. Once we have chosen a candidate, any candidate, we will all be out spreading the news far and wide. And a win by Vinehout, the woman underdog, in the primary would generate a lot of excitement and energy and momentum. She is NOT about politics as usual, and I think that is what we the people are looking for.
I find it incredibly disconcerting to see people put Kathleen Falk and Kathleen Vinehout in the same bracket. They have vastly different histories, records on issues, and depth of experience. Vinehout and Barrett may have more in common than Vinehout and Falk, and to put them in the same category as equal contenders simply because of their sex is, frankly, sexist. But if that's the theme of this, then man up, Garvey, and make a decision.
I would love to see Kathleen Falk as Governor. She would be a strong champion on environmental issues, something Wisconsin has long been proud of until Scotty arrived. But electability is also an issue, and the four Democratic candidates are not equal on that score. Something I've not seen discussed at all is that there is a likelihood that the Assembly remains in Republican hands even after the November election, and how the new Governor (fingers crossed) will deal with that.
