Active in the Valley
By Ms. Forward
Rebecca Katers and others have organized a protest against the Gannett corporation and in favor of balanced and complete news coverage in Green Bay.
UW-Oshkosh journalism professor Tony Palmeri reports that Gannett is now the owner of every major newspaper in the Fox Valley, and Palmeri says there is some talk of launching simultaneous protests outside the offices of every Gannett paper in the Valley.
Palmeri also reports on a "Rally for Real Democracy in Wisconsin" on June 11th in Oshkosh, put on by the Lake Winnebago Green Party in commemoration of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin convention being held in the city June 10-12.
In Palmeri's words, the rally will focus on opposition to Governor Jim Doyle's Job Creation Acts and minimum wage deal and the "bipartisan assaults on the UW system," along with demands for universal health care, campaign finance reform, domestic partner benefits, gender identity protection and other issues.
The rally will take place at Riverside Park, Oshkosh, directly behind the Park Plaza Convention Center, One North Main St, Oshkosh, at 10 a.m.
