Detaining Dick Cheney
By Bob Menamin
President Obama wants to establish a program of "Preventive Detention." This would include, "People who can not be prosecuted for past crimes, but who nonetheless pose a serious threat to the security of the United States."
Our nation would detain people we somehow or other deem dangerous even if evidence of that is lacking. Suspects would be detained without judicial protection.
A good example of such a dangerous person might be former Vice Presient Dick Cheney. I believe the American public might support this program if the threat of Cheney could be handled swiftly and judiciously by making him the first "preventive detainee."
It is clear that Cheney's use of inflamatory speech is increasing the recruitment of terrorists worldwide as well as the curtailing of civil liberties domestically. This could eventually result in a violent attack on the U.S. homeland. A program of preventive detention could be instituted with Cheney as the first detainee. He should be kept at Guantanamo until the war on terror has been completed.
