A good day for teachers, firefighters, voters and everyone else
By John Matthews
Madison Teachers Inc., Madison Firefighters, Local 311, and AFT-Wisconsin intervened in the Van Hollen suit against the Government Accounting Board and we are proud we did. We fought for all voters. The McCain co-chair for Wisconsin, Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen, forgot that he is the People's Lawyer not the Republican Party's lawyer. Had he prevailed in his lawsuit, hundreds of thousands of voters would have been taken off the rolls for no good reason. We found it odd that the Department of Justice, coordinated with the Republican Party, sat with them in court, developed strategy, but Van Hollen never came to court.
Our members, indeed, all voters in Wisconsin deserve better representation from our DOJ.
As Judge Maryann Sumi said yesterday, each qualified voter will go to the polls on November 4 to exercise their most important right--the right to vote. Judge Sumi, in a loud, clear, eloquent voice sided with the Wisconsin Constitution and the voters. Van Hollen should listen.
